19Aug 10 Ullswater - Weekend 1 Highlights

As promised here are some of the things we are absolutely itching in our seats to get up to over the first weekend of the Ullswater Outdoor Festival!
Saturday 25th September
Walking highlights have got to include "Askham and Lowther Park" which will provide fantastic views both Lowther Park and the magnificent castle. Perfect if you plan on taking your dog with you, however a packed lunch and a waterproof are highly recommended! Places can be booked by caling 017684 82414.
Or, if you'd rather try something a bit different Distant Horizons will be providing Beginners Sea Kayak Tours throughout the day.
And if you've not got time for any of that, there will be a mobile climbing wall at the Glenridding Green all day, so if you've got a spare half hour, pop along!
Sunday 26th September
For a challenging but hugely fascinating 7.5 miles, the Green Side & Keppel Cove volunteer led walk is perfect. An above ground tour of the extensive remains of the Green Side mining activities set amongst stunning mountain scenery. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome, and packed lunches are highly recommended! Call 017684 82414 to book your place.
If you'd like to infinitely increase your chances of getting wet, regardless of the weather, then try the 500m or 1 mile swim in Ullswater! This Open Water swim will take in some stunning scenery (if you take the time to look around), however it's filling fast, so call 01768 351689 to book.

Just a little healthy reminder, as if you've forgotten, that the Pateley Bridge Walking Festival is just around the corner!
From the 23rd - 26th September, at Nidderdale there will be 3 walks a day, including special interest and guided tours.
Not only that but with evening talks and your chance to win some great outdoor gear it's a perfect excuse to get to one of Britain's Area's of Outstanding Beauty.

28Jul 10 Stuart Maconie Confirms Ullswater Talk

Sprayway can confirm that Radio 2 DJ and Outdoor Enthusiast Stuart Maconie will be speaking at the Ullswater Outdoor Festival on Saturday the 2nd of October at the Inn at The Lake, Glenridding, Cumbria.
With an extensive background in music, radio, television and journalism, and having lived in the Lake District for so long, Mr Maconie will be entertaining the Ullswater Festival-ers with an evening talk.

Ullswater is arguably England's most beautiful lake, with an unmistakable approach through a stunning backdrop of mountains and valleys, Ullswater opens in front of you, a hidden gem in Northern Cumbria.
What more excuse could you need to get to Ullswater? How about the Ullswater Outdoor Festival from the 25th September-3rd October 2010, with over 50 walks, climbs, scrambles, swims, abseils, cruises, talks and tours to choose from.
Highlights include: a talk by Radio 2 DJ and Outdoor Enthusiast Stuart Maconie, Mountain Navigation Training (one of 18 free activites provided by Distant Horizons), a mobile climbing wall and a series of fantastic walks through the stunning local scenery, whether it's to Dovedale and Deepdale or Aira Force (see below).

Another update with some great excuses to get outdoors now the kids are breaking up for summer holidays!
The Lake District Walking Festival, with volunteers kitted out by Sprayway has a great selection of events this week. Some of the highlights:
Walks:
22nd July - Dovedale & Deepdale - Compare and contrast the beauty and wildness of the Deepdale and Dovedale valleys.
24th July - Scales Tarn & Souther Fell - See Scales Tarn in its magnificent setting under Blencathra. Return via Souther Fell and enjoy stunning views.
25th July - Hawkshead (Vikings & Monks) - A leisurely walk with spectacular views through the fields around Hawkshead, learning about its varied history.

23rd July - Nature with a Twist - Look at the natural world with fresh eyes and be inspired to create your own work of art.
24th July - Learn Bushcraft and Survival Skills - Get to grips with basic survival skills, including shelter building, fire lighting and rope, string and knot tying.
